Fees for camping - £10 per person per night, £5 for children (under 5s free). Payment must be on arrival, not on leaving, due to previous non-payers. You are paying for an almost exclusive pitch on a private riverbank, which is close to wild camping, but contained in a small farm environment. The site doesn't usually have more than ten pitches. If you would rather wild camp, then please do that rather than leaving us poor reviews.
Riverside Pitches - Choose your spot along the riverbank, we can provide an up-cycled fire pit and table. On sunny days you are welcome to try a bit of paddling. The river is sometimes deep enough in places to swim. The field is rough grass.
The site we offer is basic, with no electric hook ups, and no shower/wash facilities and no hot water. We do not have tents or yurts for hire. If you are looking for a little luxury we recommend Ruberslaw Wild Woods nearby which offers family spaces in their beautiful walled garden, a rainy day picnic area, luxury safari tents, wild camping, and more.
At Rue du Chateau Camping there are two flat fields that stretch along the riverbank, you are welcome to explore along these as well as the camp site.
Ground is grassy and bumpy in places. No hook-ups, there are only basic facilities - a horse trailer nearby houses a small porta-toilet with sanitisers. There are no shower/wash facilities. There is a cold tap for fresh water. There is limited or no phone reception depending on your network. It is a short walk from where you park your car at the main farm. Wheelbarrows are provided to help you move your belongings.
Children and dogs are more than welcome, we have three young children in our tribe, but we ask that they are not left unsupervised at any time, and dogs remain on leads and any mess is collected, it is a magical spot to enjoy, but not run wild, please respect other guests, the livestock and the wildlife. No camp fires on the ground, fire pits are provided.
This is a quiet site and is not to be used for loud parties, litter must be taken home with you not left on the pitch for us to clean up. All gates must be kept closed, regardless of how short a time you think you are going to be coming back to it, because there is livestock that comes and goes in the fields, and those sheep can be quick when they spot an open gate leading to a tasty looking vegetable patch. Please be respectful of the place you are visiting as well as other campers, we are a small family run site and abusing our goodwill and trust runs the risk of closing the whole site. Please see our list of rules for more information.
